TIPS FOR SHARING IN A SUPPORT GROUP
- Use “I” Statements or “have you thought of” rather than “you should” or “you must” pronouncements
- Share only what you are comfortable with – you have the right to pass
- Respect the right of others to time – do not try to dominate the conversation
- Be tolerant of each others differences and be aware of the things you have in common
- Encourage a positive self-help attitude in each other
- Support group meetings are not the place to expound your personal philosophies and theories
- Share, but try not to give advice
- Feelings are neither good of bad – they just are!
- No one can solve someone else’s problem, please don’t try. Just listen, support and share.
